4 Best Virginia Beach Photography Locations
With that being said, the location chosen for family photos will play a BIG role in whether you will LOVE the final images! Considering the different outdoor photo shoot locations is a big part of the planning process, and I’ve made a list of my favorite spots to take my amazing clients for their outdoor family photos. Here are my top 4 best Virginia Beach photography locations
North End Beaches
The North End Beaches are a stunning location if you want big, open beaches, tall dune grass that you can access WITHOUT climbing in the dunes. And, because of the proximity to the Naval bases nearby, the possibility of spotting ships in the ocean is great near the North End Beaches!
Pleasure House Natural Area
A tried and true, classic family photoshoot location in Virginia Beach! Chances are, either you or someone you know has had their portraits taken at this park! It has ample, free parking, and changes throughout the year to provide a variety of scenic views to add to your photos. In the Spring, wildflowers bloom and can be seen in the grass.
During the Summer months, the grasses are tall and green. Fast forward to Fall, the grasses bloom to puffy, cream colored stalks and provide a gentle motion to your photos! BUT there are several entrances to the park, and depending on which entrance your photographer takes you to and which paths you take, you may end up on a small beach, or under a canopy of Oak trees.

Sandbridge Beach
As a Virginia Beach family photographer, I have the pleasure of working with many families in the Summer months who are vacationing at Sandbridge Beach! I travel directly to the rental homes of families vacationing in Sandbridge for their convenience.
Imagine – spending time at a gorgeous oceanfront home for a week while your kids are growing up, and then looking back at family portraits and remembering that sweet rental! Here are a few favorite images from a Sandbridge session where my clients rented at the amazing, family-friendly Sandbridge beach rental – the Sanctuary Condos on the South end of Sandbridge.
Back Bay Wildlife Refuge
Back Bay Wildlife Refuge is located at the southernmost part of Virginia Beach! It’s important to note that Back Bay requires a special commercial photography permit – one I purchase for my clients – and is not a public bathing/swimming beach location so that means wide open beaches with BARELY ANYONE else there!
It is a National Park and not a swimming/bathing beach, so expect not to see many people except those hiking on the trails and those fishing on the beach. 🙂 Back Bay offers a stunning and one-of-a-kind photoshoot location in Southern Virginia Beach, ideal for maternity and couple portraits. I’ve even featured a full maternity session in this blog!
